{"id":7640,"date":"2020-11-19T22:09:05","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T21:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/?post_type=dermatologija&#038;p=7640"},"modified":"2023-11-14T14:56:11","modified_gmt":"2023-11-14T13:56:11","slug":"alopecia-areata","status":"publish","type":"dermatologija","link":"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/en\/dermatology-in-belgrade\/alopecia-areata\/","title":{"rendered":"Alopecia Areata Treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\n<strong>Alopecia areata or patchy hair loss<\/strong> is a is a relatively common condition that occurs in a form of clearly defined, round hairless patches on the scalp, but also on other hairy parts of the body.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nIt is not fully known what causes this condition, a genetic predisposition is important, but it can be also triggered by other factors, such as emotional stress and other undefined factors.\r\nIt is most likely an <strong>autoimmune disease<\/strong> that is often associated with other autoimmune diseases such as <a href=\"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/en\/dermatology-in-belgrade\/vitiligo\/\">vitiligo<\/a> and thyroid disease.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-183-500\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alopecia \u2014 Clinical picture<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\n<strong>Alopecia<\/strong> usually begins in the form of a single patch on the scalp from which most of the hairs suddenly fall off. The skin in that place is unchanged, with no signs of inflammation, and the hair around the hairless area can easily be pulled out.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAlopecia usually begins between the ages of 5. and 30 . The first changes usually affect the scalp, but they can also occur in the eyebrows, eyelashes, men\u2019s beard, as well as on the rest of the skin.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhen hair falls out around sides and lower back of the scalp this condition is called <strong>ophiasis<\/strong>, when the whole scalp is affected it is <strong>total alopecia<\/strong>, and the loss of all body hair is referred to as <strong>universal alopecia<\/strong> and their prognosis is worse than alopecia areata.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nIn addition to the hairy parts, this condition can also occur on the nails in the form of pointed depressions and nail furrows.\r\n\r\n <div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Alopecia\" src=\"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dermatim-alopecia-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"chin alopecia\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div> \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-187-500\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treatment and prognosis of the disease<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\nIn localised cases, the treatment is successful, while the prognosis is worse in cases that began before puberty, as well as with ophiasis, universal and total alopecia.\r\nIn localised alopecia, a spontaneous hair growth can occur after a few months.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nFrom local therapy, <strong>corticosteroids<\/strong> are used either topically or intralesionally, <strong>immunomodulators<\/strong>, <strong>irritants<\/strong>, <strong>minoxidil<\/strong>.
