In 15% of healthy people Candida can be found in the oral cavity or genital mucosa, without any symptoms.\r\nCandida is part of normal flora of intestines, living in symbiosis with the rest of the microflora, without excessive reproduction.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-7-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Causes of candida infections<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\n<strong>Candida<\/strong> causes infection of the skin, mucous membranes or nails in cases of excessive intake of antibiotics, immunosuppressants, corticosteroids, drop of immunity.\r\nExcessive use of aggressive soaps in the genital area destroys normal microflora, allowing excessive reproduction of candida.\r\nCandidiasis can occur during menstruation, in pregnancy, when wearing synthetic inadequate underwear, due to skin-to-skin friction.\r\nPeople suffering from diabetes are prone to recurrence of candidiasis since the high blood sugar allows the fungus to multiply.\r\n\r\n <div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" class=\"wp-image-645\" title=\"Candida nail infection\" src=\"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dermatim-kandida-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Candida nail infection\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dermatim-kandida-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dermatim-kandida-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dermatim-kandida-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/dermatim-kandida.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Candida nail infection<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<\/div> \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-9-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Candidiasis of the oral cavity<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\nMost often candidiasis in the oral cavity is present in infants and young children. Whitish deposits are formed on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and tongue \u2014 oral thrush.\r\nThe deposits can look like clotted milk, with red painful sores underneath, making the feeding of the child difficult.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nIn adults, candidiasis infection occurs in the listed cases, characterised by whitish deposits and redness.\r\nAfter a prolonged course of infection, the mucous membrane is bright red in colour, shiny, smooth without deposits.\r\nSmokers are prone to oral cavity candidiasis, with the formation of thick, white deposits on the cheek mucosa and tongue.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-29-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cutaneous candidiasis<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\nCutaneous candidiasis is common in newborns, in the groin area, under diapers. It also occurs in adults on the folds, in obese people, skin-to-skin friction area, under breasts in women. In these places, clearly shaped redness with moist, blisters and pustules forms.\r\nCandidiasis can affect skin between fingers in people who se hands are often soaked in water, like housewives or confectioners.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-11-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Candidiasis in the corners of the mouth<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\nCandidiasis in the corners of the mouth is often present in people with dentures \u2014 angular cheilitis.\r\nOften in the corners of the mouth, redness, cracking of the skin, scaling, moist can be observed.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-13-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Genital candidiasis<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/dermatim.rs\/en\/dermatology-in-belgrade\/genital-ulcerations\/\">Genital candidiasis<\/a> occurs on the vulva and vagina in women, in the form of redness, itching, whitish cheesy discharge.\r\nIn men, on the glans and foreskin, redness, whitish deposits and blisters can be found, leaving shallow sores after they break. The itching sensation is particularly pronounced.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-38-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Candida infection of the nails<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\nCandida affects the cuticle around the nail, which becomes swollen, red, and tender to the touch. It often occurs in people who frequently soak their hands in water. In the area between the skin and the nail, pockets with purulent content develop.\r\nBecause of candida infection, the growing nail is ridged and brittle.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h2 id=\"headline-43-639\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diagnosis and treatment of candidiasis<\/h2>\r\n \r\n\r\nThe diagnosis can be made by microscopic analysis and isolation of candida from the affected surfaces.\r\nWhen treating candidiasis, it is important to eliminate the predisposing factors that favour the reproduction of candidiasis pathogens.
